Overcoming the World

The world. You can't beat it. Or can you?

"Overcoming the World" Do you see God's washing over the hardships in this life in this piece?
Jesus spoke these words as some of his last few: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

Jesus didn't overcome it as he could've, as we would hope. The Father's plan was bigger than that. But if you're anything like me, getting things done in one fell swoop is hugely victorious... at least I celebrate it that way when I happen to have that serendipitous luck. Why wouldn't He choose to work that way all the time? There are lots of reasons, and possible reasons, but the one I'll focus on is so that we could have the chance of working together with Him. In us.

After Jesus died, resurrected, and ascended to heaven, he didn't leave us powerless to overcome the evil around us and in us. He gave us God Himself in us: the Holy Spirit. Through him we can overcome the sin in us--at least in part--as we are sanctified and become more like Christ.

We'll see the completion of his "overcoming" at the time of His second coming. And we will, together with Christ, fully overcome the world. Until then, we can have a taste of that power. And feel His peace in that very hope.

Our walk, our growth as people and artists is messy and imperfect. But it can be done!
